Subscriber Management#

Subscribers are the contacts in your Novaza Pulse database. Each subscriber has an email address, an optional name, a subscription status, and a set of custom attributes. Subscribers are organized into lists and can be further segmented using tags and dynamic segments.

Lists#

A list is a named collection of subscribers. You can have as many lists as needed — for example: Newsletter, Product Updates, Trial Users, Enterprise Customers. Campaigns are sent to one or more lists.

To create a list: Pulse → Lists → New List. Enter a name and an optional description. You can also configure a double opt-in confirmation email for this list — subscribers added via a public form will receive a confirmation email and must click to verify before being added.

Adding Subscribers#

Manual Add#

Go to Lists → [list name] → Add Subscriber. Enter the subscriber’s email and optionally their name and custom attributes.

Import via CSV#

Click Import on any list page to upload a CSV file. The CSV must have at minimum an email column. Additional columns are mapped to subscriber attributes during the import wizard. You can choose to:

  • Add new subscribers only — skip existing subscribers
  • Update existing subscribers — overwrite attributes for any email that already exists in the list
  • Subscribe and update — add or update, marking all imported contacts as subscribed

API#

Use the Pulse API to programmatically add and update subscribers from your own application.

Tags#

Tags are free-form labels applied to individual subscribers within a list. Examples: vip, paid, webinar-2026, churned. Tags can be applied manually, via import, or automatically using automation rules.

Use tags to create targeted sends — when composing a campaign, you can filter the recipient list to include only subscribers with (or without) specific tags.

Segments#

Segments are dynamic groups of subscribers defined by filter rules — similar to saved searches. Segments are recomputed at send time, so they always reflect the current state of your subscriber data. Example segment: Status = Subscribed AND Tag includes vip AND Created after 2026-01-01.

Subscription Status#

Each subscriber has one of the following statuses:

StatusMeaning
SubscribedActive, will receive campaigns
UnsubscribedOpted out — will never receive campaigns from this workspace
BouncedEmail address returned a hard bounce — suppressed automatically
ComplainedMarked the email as spam — suppressed automatically
InactiveAdded but pending double opt-in confirmation

Exporting Subscribers#

Go to Lists → [list name] → Export to download all subscribers as a CSV file. You can filter the export by status or tag before downloading.

GDPR and Data Deletion#

To delete a specific subscriber and all their data from Pulse, go to the subscriber’s detail page and click Delete Subscriber. This permanently removes their record from all lists and from the campaign delivery history, in compliance with GDPR right-to-erasure requests.
