In-Room Chat#
Every Novaza Live room has a built-in text chat so participants can send messages, share links, and ask questions without interrupting the audio or video conversation. The chat panel opens alongside the room view with a single click.
Sending Messages#
Open the chat panel from the room toolbar, type in the input field, and press Enter to send. Shift+Enter inserts a line break without sending. Messages support:
- Plain text with URL auto-linking
- Basic markdown (bold, italic, code, lists)
- Emoji shortcodes (
→ 🙂) - Paste-to-upload images up to 10 MB
- File attachments up to 50 MB
Direct Messages#
Click on a participant’s name in the roster to start a direct conversation with them. DMs appear in a separate thread in the chat panel and are visible only to the two participants. DMs end when one participant leaves the room.
Message Retention#
Chat messages live for the duration of the room. When the last participant leaves and the room closes, the transcript is discarded automatically. This protects casual conversations by default.
If a room is configured as persistent (Professional and Enterprise plans), chat is retained indefinitely and can be searched on future visits to the same room.
Moderation#
Room hosts can:
- Delete individual messages
- Mute a participant’s chat privileges
- Clear the entire chat history
- Disable chat for the room
All moderation actions are recorded in the room’s activity log.
Notifications#
Browser notifications and in-app badges alert users to new messages when the chat panel is closed. Notifications can be muted per room from the room settings menu.
Accessibility#
The chat panel is fully keyboard-navigable. All messages are announced to screen readers as they arrive, and images carry an alt-text prompt for uploaders.
